  • ISSE 1993
  • Andrew has just finished a degree in History & Politics at Trinity College, Oxford University
In 2002, we asked
What have you been up to since leaving the ISSE?
I left the ISSE in 1993, and upon arrival in England I went to the local comprehensive for the next 4 years. Then I did 2 years at sixth form college for A-Levels, and for the past 3 years I've been doing a degree in History & Politics at Trinity College, Oxford University. I finished there in June 2002 and am currently unemployed!
What are your plans for the coming year(s)?
To persuade some feckless employer to give me a job more intellectually stimulating than stacking toilet rolls at Tesco or mopping up toddlers' vomit at McDonalds (both of which I have done, I'm ashamed to say...)
Oh, and the little matter of trying to realise what the purpose of my life is.

Any particular memories of people/events/scandals from the ISSE?
Ok, there was one time that Christian brought a hardcore porn magazine to school, and a load of us boys flocked into the cubicle of the toilet to look at it..I never got to see it though as I was the look-out...
For some reason in Science class we dared Christian to ask Mr McGregor why he married his wife..and he told us because she was a good cleaner..
Oh, and I was once sponsored (for charidee) by people in our class to swear and insult Mrs Gasser, our Geography and History teacher, all the way through her lessons one day, calling her a freaky, acne-ridden yankee, or words to that effect - now THAT was fun!

Teachers:
Gruintjes the Dutch teacher was an old bag, her lessons were dull so I often mucked about and so often got trouble and once she threatened me with a yellow card
Koks the computer studies teacher I also disliked - he was probably alright, but I saw him as a bastard who persecuted me in lessons of ridiculous work on those awfully old BBC computers
Gym teacher - Doras/Neutkens? - always a great laugh, loads of fun in pirates (especially when I was 'it' and had to hide in the gym horse)
Gasser the History/Geography teacher - she was so young and American, I loved winding her up and taking the piss out of her

The students:
While so many stick in my mind, special mention has to go to:
John McFarlane & Marcus Colak - for humour, weirdness, but above all great friends
Kelly Banbury - the hard-nosed yet extremely cool and likeable tough girl
Jennie Lawrence - the glamour girl
Omar & Laura, perennial Brownies
Amy Jeenes & Alice Pickering - humour, laughter & giggling
Nicholas von Pickartz - fantastic bloke, cartoonist and friend
All the best
